A lot of the ultrasound exams are painless, fast, and easily handled. Ultrasound exams that insert the transducer into a body cavity may cause little discomfort. If the doctor does a Doppler ultrasound exam, you may hear pulse-like sounds that vary in pitch as they assess and determine the blood flow.
Most ultrasound examinations are done within minutes, even if more extensive exams may take up to an hour. When the examination is totally done, you may be asked to put on a dress and wait while the ultrasound images are being changed. After an ultrasound exam, you must be able to continue to your normal activities immediately.
