An ultrasound technician will apply a special lubricating gel on your skin. This avoids friction so they can rub the ultrasound tool better on your skin. The tool or the transducer looks like a microphone. The jelly also makes sure that it transmits the sound waves.
The transducer gives out high-frequency sound waves in the body. The waves give out echoes as they hit a dense object, like an organ or bone. Those echoes are then reflected back into a computer, and the sound waves are at too high of a pitch for the human’s ear to hear. They have a picture that can be assessed by the doctor.
